As we embarked on the journey to create our first sensory-integrated playground, our key leaders came together to discuss the significance of this project and why it aligns with our foundation’s mission. CEO Cath Slevin, Play to Learn Coordinator Tammy Taylor (a qualified occupational therapist), Linc Church Pastor Dylan Jahnig, and Annemarie Van Jaarsveld from SAISI, who was instrumental in developing this innovative concept, shared their insights in a special podcast episode.
The sensory-integrated playground was developed through research by Annemarie Van Jaarsveld and her team of sensory-integration occupational therapists. Their goal was to provide occupational therapy support to learners aged 4-10 in low-income communities.
This initiative enables children to develop essential skills like postural control, bilateral coordination, and fine and gross motor abilities—all crucial for enhancing their reading and writing abilities.
To understand why this playground is so important and why our foundation is committed to this vision, listen to our latest podcast episode, “The Power Behind the Playground,” where our team delves into the inspiration and purpose behind this transformative project.
