At the heart of our Step Ahead programme is a deep belief in the power of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) to transform schools into thriving, values-driven communities. By supporting both learners and educators in developing emotional intelligence and self-awareness, we aim to cultivate active, engaged citizens who contribute positively to their world
Evolving to Meet Educators’ Needs
Last year, our educator support focused on group sessions—creating safe spaces in staff rooms where teachers could share their experiences and feel valued. While this approach was impactful, we quickly realized that each teacher is on their own unique journey. This insight led us to adapt our approach, ensuring that educators receive the tailored support they need.

One-on-One Coaching for Educators
This year, we introduced one-on-one coaching sessions, led by Gugu Radebe and Ponsie Ngema. These voluntary sessions provide personalised support for educators, helping them navigate personal and professional growth beyond the classroom. By investing in their well-being, we empower teachers to show up as their best selves for their learners and school communities.
A Holistic Approach to Educator Support
To create a balance between individual and collective learning, the Step Ahead Educator Programme now includes:
One-on-One Coaching Sessions | Whole Staff Development Sessions | Professional Learning Community (PLC) |
Personalised support offered in Term 1 and Term 4, with additional sessions arranged as needed. | Group coaching for the entire school staff in Term 2 and Term 3, fostering teamwork, reflection, and emotional res | A dedicated space for educators to engage in ongoing SEL-focused discussions and learning each term. |
Piloting the Full Programme
We are excited to be piloting the full Step Ahead Educator Programme at
Sogidi Primary School and Aldinville Primary School, where we’re seeing first-hand how coaching and SEL support empower teachers. Our other partner schools continue to engage with our Professional Learning Community, ensuring that SEL remains a central focus in their teaching practice.By creating meaningful connections and offering intentional support, we believe that both educators and learners will thrive—building stronger, more emotionally intelligent school communities.
Step ahead with us and be part of this transformation!
